Bio

David Blackmore is a European artist living and working between Dublin and London. He was born in Dublin to an Irish mother and English father. As a result, the notion of a dividing line seperating two identities has created a cultural inbetweenness within him; informing much of the work he has made. Initially trained through the medium and criticality of photography his practice has migrated substantially favouring a transdisciplinary approach. Like a border David has two sides to his practice. One consists of relational exchanges and actions performed for the image. The other is studio based, working with sculpture and print.

Initially studying at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art & Design (Dublin, Ire) and University of Westminster (London, UK) Blackmore completed a Master’s in Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art (London, Uk). David has exhibited widely including solo shows at Stanley Picker Gallery Project Space (London), MOCA (London), SITEATION (Dublin), Schwartz Gallery (London), Central European House of Photography (Bratislava), Draíocht (Dublin) and Elliot Halls (Amsterdam).

At the start of 2021 David was included in Art UK's list of 10 artists to follow in 2021. In 2020 David featured in BBC4’s TV documentary ‘21st Century Mythologies with Richard Clay’discussing the myth of money. In 2019 and 2017 two works by Blackmore were accessioned to the British Museum's collection; one of which featured in I‐Object (Jan 2019).

A relational work European Pa55port featured at MOCA London (October, 2018), re: publica’s Berlin (May 2018) and Dublin (Sept. 2017) conferences and was presented at Rem Koolhaas / Wolfgang Tillmans’ EuroLab conference in June 2018.

David's studio is located at Chisenhale Studios Bow, he is a Lecturer in Fine Art and Contextual Practice at Central Saint Martins and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts
